Last night in a Sweetly Broken class they asked me to post this, it is a quote from one of my favorites…Henri Nouwen and very true in life.
“The important thing to remember is that we might not have a choice in regard to the circumstances of our life BUT in regard to the way we respond to these circumstances. Some people become bitter as they grow old….while others grow old joyfully. It doesn’t mean that the life of those who become bitter was any harder or more difficult that the one who is joyful…It means different choices were made!”
Bitterness is the most Self Defeating expression of brokenness I know. We all know bitter people…Did you enjoy their company? They end up being alone and miserable left feeling angry, lonely and wondering why no one wants to spend time with them. You know as I look around at people in their 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and on up this rings so true. We all have our difficult “Stuff” sprinkled through our lives, no makes it through the journey without some pain or suffering, it’s just part of life. But as it is sad in that age group I also see it across the board in all ages. Bitterness can take root at any age. It’s just a matter of if we allow it to take root, continue to grow, carry it with us for the journey and let it infect our life. Hebrews12:15 says, See to it that no one misses the GRACE of God and that NO BITTER root grows up there to cause trouble and defile many.
We need to be aware that every moment we have an opportunity to choose JOY. We have a choice to live the moment as a cause for resentment and bitterness or a cause for joy, will you choose resentment or restoration….the choice is yours!
Choose wisely and live abundantly!
