Finding the FUN in your day!

I am reading this great book called 7 Habits of a Healthy Home by Bill Carmichael.  Wonderful read, it addresses you personally as well as a member of a family and as a parent. One of the girls in my group mentioned that the quote under the title of the next chapter made her think of me. The chapter is Celebration: Is Life Good and under it is a quote from Billy Graham,

“I want to be remembered as someone who was fun to live with.”Billy Graham

Now I don’t know if I am fun to live with, my kids could argue that one on certain days I am sure, but I like fun. I like to celebrate and laugh. I think we all do. Who doesn’t like a good belly laugh, or just good old plain fun and being silly? Sometimes we get so caught up in the routine…… pack the lunches, do the homework, feeding, cleaning, returning emails, carpool, making sure shoes are tied, seat belts are buckled…… that we miss the giggles along the way. We focus on achievement, on the “doing” that we lose sight of the joy of “being”.

Our children need to see us laugh, be silly and have fun. To celebrate even the simple things life offers. And as a mother I can say there is nothing like hearing your children’s laughter, no matter how old they are, and what a gift it is to be able to share in the laughter with them.

“If all must be right with the world before I may have a fling with joy, I shall be somber forever.” Lewis Smedes

HOW TRUE IS THAT! If we wait until all our i’s are dotted and t’s crossed, or until we are at peace with our own world we will wait forever. Joy is happening all around us. There will always be the tough things that fill our days, so seize the moments of joy and celebration.  Joy is like water when you are thristy. You can drink and drink, but you will always come back for more.

Today may you celebrate, laugh be silly and DRINK UP the joy in your day!

I really, really need to read that today. I was so stressed and preoccupied with things I wasn’t handling the kids very well. Son was refusing to go to swim lessons. Humor helps. Being silly helps. Once they’re home I need to play a little. Thank Merrill.
