Today was the debut of my first television Life Coaching interview….Yikes, I was scared to see it, a bit sick to my stomach actually. I barely remember taping it, it was weeks ago and my sweet sister Kristin went for support in case I buckled! I remember that I just kept saying to myself…..”I think I can, I think I can…” And after watching it I realized …..this little engine really could. I always find it funny that people see me as confident. Yes, I can speak in front of crowds and lead classes and workshops BUT when we lead worship…..My heart beats like a humming bird! Playing the songs, singing and remembering the chords! Putting it all together……That is OUT OF MY BOX! And the TV thing again was an OOMB experience, but what fun!
Confidence is about having faith in yourself, realizing that your a brighter and stronger than you think. It is also saying “What’s the worst thing that could happen?” So you fail….don’t we learn from failure, grow from failure? We can learn a lot about ourselves through our successes but it is also true with our failures. I believe it is in the “Out of the Box” experiences that we begin to see what we are really made of and are capable of doing. It is in this uncomfortable place that our confidence is born and can take root and grow. It is hard to blaze new trails while remaining on familiar ground or staying in the box.
After watching myself today I thought, “Wow, I sound like I know what I am talking about!” It’s in this moment that I realize and see some unknown potential. A little confidence is born…..I can color out of the lines that I defined myself with.
So I say….. have faith! In yourself, in the one who made you and jump out of the box every now and then, color outside the lines….. Be uncomfortable and grow into your greatest YOU, you can be!
