Truth

I was pondering truth this morning. We all say we want truth and have heard…..

” The truth shall set you free!”

Well, yes but at times the truth can be hard to swallow. Sometimes it can be uncomfortable or painful to take a honest look at your life. What is working and what isn’t. I encourage my clients to surround themselves with people who love them and will speak truth their life.  Most people immediately nod and say “YES!”. But it isn’t that simple or easy. Do we really know what to do with truth when we hear it?

There is Nice Truth and then the Difficult Truth

When someone says “You look great!” or “Good job!” Do we take it in as truth or quickly discount it? I know that a lot of us don’t take the “nice” truth in. We either don’t believe it of have a hard time excepting it. As my dear friend reminds me, say “thank you” instead of “are you kidding me, no I don’t.” We may struggle with nice truths and can find them hard to believe.

Then there are the times when the truth is hard, challenging and maybe even painful. It makes us so uncomfortable when we hear it that we want to run and find someone who will tell us what we want to hear and there will be many. But if someone loves us enough and is brave enough to speak truth to us it might be worth a listen.  If we always avoid the truth we never grow and move beyond the place we are at. It takes time, courage and self love to be able to face it. As always it’s what we do with it that matters.

We need to hear the nice truth in order to see ourselves Wonderfully Made, we need to hear the difficult truth in order to work on being Wonderfully Made.
