“Help, I need somebody….”

Love this Beatles song. It is how we all feel at times but we just don’t sing it loud enough. Everybody needs a little help now and then, but we don’t ask. We either are too arrogant to ask….I can do it myself! Or embarrassed to ask….Others will know I am a mess and don’t have it together! Or maybe we just don’t think anyone really cares. WRONG!

This is a song that I have learned to sing loudly over the last few years. Being a single mom, trying to start a business, juggling life, bills, children, house repairs and all the unexpected things life throws at you. I have had to yell “Help!” Now let me tell you this was not easy….asking for help was like Fonzie saying the words “I was wroooong..” Do you remember his pain in saying those words?

I like to do things by myself, I don’t want others to have to take care of me, I don’t want others to see my mess and what I don’t have under control. Yikes, even as I type these words I can see how God thought he had a BIG lesson to teach me in the word….HELP. I had a big pile of pride standing in the way of me using this one word. But there came a time that I had to learn the word, I had to ask for help. And to my surprise help came. When we are humble enough to say it, God provides it. Through family and friends, through his unchanging word and amazing mercy and grace, through the unexpected.

I have always been comfortable helping others and knew that was a gift I could give. And in givingĀ  I have been blessed back, BUT I was never allowing others to be blessed by helping me. You see God uses us and blesses us on either side of the HELP! He created us to be a part of a community in whatever form it takes in your life. To love, support, encourage, to care for, to uplift, inspire and give of ourselves. In this one word….Help….I have found it is a win-win for all parties involved!

So, be humble enough to say it, or sing it and gracious enough to accept it because we all could “use a little help from our friends!”
