YEAH, It’s Saturday!!!! My day for “Fruitful Uselessness” of rest, play and delight! There is something wonderful about doing nothing of significance. Just to be. I read all about this in a wonderful book a few years back called SABBATH by Wayne Muller. I love the book, it has kind of become a hand book for life in my house and it’s fresh look at what Sabbath can mean in our lives and in our homes.
Mark 2:27 says….”You are not made for the Sabbath, the Sabbath was made for YOU!” I think sometimes we just get that backwards and don’t really grasp what a gift a sabbath moment can be.
So today I am going to play, lay, write, read and ponder. I am going to watch Grace play basketball and cheer her on to VICTORY (thank goodness they don’t keep score yet so it is always a victory!). Maybe see a movie, eat yummy things, sit on my front porch, piddle in the yard, shoot baskets and take Sunshine on a walk….watching her tail wag! PURE JOY…. Yes, these are a few of my favorite things. Take time to look deep in my kids faces, listen, let go the tic-toc of the clock and do what fills our souls instead of being tied to a schedule for a day. Create time and space for laughter, quiet, fresh air, each other…. a restoration of our spirits. We all need this but sometimes just don’t slow down long enough to grab it, own it and enjoy it.
I love my “Sabbath Saturdays” and the purposeless enjoyment that it brings! May you find a Sabbath Moment too!
