The other day I was having a conversation with a small group people and one of them started talking about a friend of theirs that had a mentally challenged child. They went on to say how sad it was that the parents had been burdened with this child all these years, she was in her 20’s. As I listened I thought how interesting that we tend to look at the burdens of others and then compare them to our life. “At least all we have to deal with is ________” (fill in the burden of your life). We all do this to make our lives seem more comfortable and easy. Comparison is a tricky thing though, because reality is, our burdens are our burdens to carry, bearing...
Read MoreSometimes I get a song going in my head and it takes up residence. I sing it, ponder it and see how it applies to life. I live music, it’s who I am. If I love it and it touches my soul it becomes a part of me. Well a new song, “Better than a Hallelujah” by Amy Grant has a line in it that’s weaving it’s way into my heart. It talks about us pouring out our misery’s and the honest cries of our breaking hearts and what God hears and sees. The line that is becoming part of me is, Beautiful the mess we are…… Not many people know but years ago when I was just beginning to think about starting a ministry I wanted to call it Messy...
Read MoreI find that in a life that is shared with others, loved ones, especially family, no matter how hard we try to make and keep everyone happy, someone draws the Short Stick. With each situation it is different. Some days it’s the kids or a specific child who been given the Short Stick. Other times it can be a spouse, friend or family member. Maybe it’s work. It can even be the house after a long week of running. But more often it is you…..the woman, the mom, the wife, because we are usually more comfortable being the owner of the Short Stick. The key to this is that wonderful word balance, and understanding without guilt, that life is a matter of choices presented to...
Read MoreOh my, has it been a long time since I blogged! I think I had a BLOG PAUSE! Actually “life” just happened. You know how life can be rolling along and then you get side swiped by something. My story is this, and I am sticking to it. Spring is always busy, not too sure why but it is…end of school…work…kids…getting ready for summer…and then the side swipe hit me. It made me think of that Nat King Cole song…”I was walkin along, minding my business…then WHAM!” A wicked cold! Now I have to say I am not a great sick person, I like to be well. I like to have energy. And everything seems so big when you feel bad,...
Read MoreAnyone that is really close to me knows that I feel rich when my pantry and gas tank are full! What more could you really want? Okay the bills paid too. But if you have yummy food to eat, and gas to get you where you want to go is anything else really needed? Simple thinking I know. Yes, there is always a cute pair of shoes that might catch my eye or a big bunch of fresh flowers that call my name, but on a whole I am a simple girl. Which is a good thing since I have started working with a financial coach. Yes, the coach has a coach! I have the “Life” part of coaching down really well but the money stuff could use some tweaking. It was after we had our first...
Read MoreI have this wonderful client that is struggling, well really wrestling with the whole faith thing. Like many of us it has to do with letting go of control. If you have always been disappointed and never could count on anyone but yourself how do you trust a unseen God? Crazy I say! He described it as if he were asked to get on a sailboat (he doesn’t know how to sail) and sent out into the ocean to sail across the sea alone and just trust that he would be okay to get to the other side. Fear, doubt and thoughts of disappointment fill his eyes. What if God doesn’t show up to Captain the boat, navigate the way, calm the storms, comfort the child? What then? Hopes...
