20 Tips for a POSITIVE New Year and YOU!

Posted by on Dec 31, 2009 | 2 comments

1. Stay Positive. You can listen to the cynics and doubters and believe that success is impossible or you can know that with faith and an optimistic attitude all things are possible. Victor Frankl says, ” Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: The last of the humans freedoms, to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s way.” The Choice is yours…daily. Choose wisely.

2. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement: My purpose is_______________________. Then commit your day to the Lord and all it holds. Ask him to guide your footsteps, words and actions. Then trust that His presence is with you always, wherever you go.

3. Kiss and Make up….or LET GO, Don’t let unforgiveness fester within you. Check your heart daily for unforgiveness. Seek an amicable solution, agree to disagree, let go and move on. Just don’t unforgiveness  take root and create bitterness within you. It will eat you alive!

4. Instead of being disappointed about where you are think optimistically about where you are going. Focus on HOPE not disappointment. Set goals and find someone to hold you accountable and celebrate your success.

5. Surround yourself with people that love and support you, and that speak truth into your life. Limit time around those that are negative and draining. Everything you allow into your life takes a certain amount of time and energy, again…choose wisely.

6. Transform adversity into success by deciding that change is not your enemy but your friend. In the challenge discover the opportunity. In most cases nothing is ever really as bad or as good as we make it, it is what we do with it that really matters.

7. Make a difference in the lives of others. Take time to tell a person what a wonderful job they are doing…appreciation goes a long way with them and within yourself.

8. Expect good things to come out of challenging experiences. Emotional balance lies in our observing our response to all that is going on around us. Keep your heart settled to love and trust God no matter what is going on around you.

9. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

10. Learn to listen. Listen with your whole body and let the person know that you are paying attention to them, what they are saying and that it matters. There is wisdom found in closing your mouth and just listening.

11. Remember there’s no substitute for hard work. Whether with our bodies, jobs, relationships, spirit or mental state, it all needs attention and work to keep it running and running well. “He who hews his own wood is twice warmed.”

12. Zoom Focus. Each day when you wake up in the morning ask: “What are the three most important things I need to do today that will help me create the success and well-being I desire?” Then tune out all the distractions and focus on these actions.

13. Instead of complaining focus on solutions. It’s the key to innovation. Complaining snuffs out all creative thinking.

14. Read more books than you did in 2009, listen to more music, go see a play or an art show. Take a hike, ride a bike, splash in waves, climb a mountain just do more of what you love and have not done this year. We get one life to live and it’s yours for the taking.

15. Learn from mistakes and let them teach you to make positive changes, then let them go and move on!

16. Focus on “Get to” vs “Have to.” Each day focus on what you get to do, not what you have to do. Life is a gift not an obligation.

17. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements:
I am thankful for __________.
Today I accomplished____________.

18. Smile and laugh more…..it is an natural anti-depressant. Hug and kiss more. Tell the ones you love that you love them daily.

19. Make time everyday to do something you enjoy. Who cares if it is nothing of significance….”Purposeless Enjoyment” and the “Fruitful Uselessness” of play and delight can lighten any load!

20. Enjoy the ride, you cannot turn the clock back. Dwelling on past events, pain or choices will hold you back from all the blessings that come with a New Year. Accept the past and embrace the future. Here’s to a New Year filled with hope, love, laughter, success and peace!
